Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Summary : This individual will report to the Weld and Beam Manager. This is a safety sensitive position because this individual will be using welding guns and machines, grinders, hoists, lifting equipment, forklifts, combi’s, break press, shears, tube benders, robotic welders, plasma and other machines, equipment and power and hand tools. This is a safety sensitive position because this individual will be working with welding equipment including welding machines and needles, grinders, sanders, hoists, banders, forklift and/or combis, pallet jacks or Big Joe. Will also be using a variety of power and hand tools including saws. Could also be working on machines such as brake press, shears, plasma, tube benders, laser and robotic welders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by Welding Engineer or Welding Technician.
Starts power supply to produce electric current.
Strikes (forms) arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to workpiece and join edges of workpiece.
Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
Welds in flat, horizontal or vertical positions.
Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
Applies filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
Cleans or degreases weld joint or workpiece.
Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarring surfaces.
Chips off excess weld, slag, and splatter.
Preheats workpiece with hand torch or heating furnace.
Positions and clamps workpieces together or assembles them in jig or fixture.
Tacks assemblies together.

Education and/or Experience
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· 1-2 years of education/experience preferred
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
